System Requirements
Before you begin the installation, ensure your hardware meets the following requirements:
- Processor: x86-compatible CPU (Pentium or later)
- RAM: Minimum 64 MB (128 MB recommended)
- Hard Disk: Minimum 1 GB of free disk space (depending on the components to be installed)
- CD-ROM Drive: Required for installation from CD
- Network Card: Compatible network interface card for network setup
Preparing for Installation
- Back Up Data: Ensure you back up all important data on the system where SCO OpenServer will be installed, as the installation may overwrite existing data.
- Acquire Installation Media: Obtain the SCO OpenServer installation CD or create a bootable USB if necessary.

- Hostname: Set the hostname for your system.
- IP Address: Choose DHCP or manually assign an IP address.
- DNS Configuration: Set up DNS servers and search domains.
Setting the Root Password
Enter and confirm the root password. This is the administrative account with full control over the system.
Post-Installation Setup
- Reboot System: After installation is complete, reboot the system.
- Login: Log in as the root user using the password set during installation.
- System Updates: Check for and apply any system updates to ensure the system is secure and up-to-date.
- User Accounts: Create additional user accounts as needed for daily use.
